Half Cup Bras

Half cup bras sit lower on the bust than a full or balcony cup, providing lift from below while leaving the upper portion of the bust exposed — useful under low-cut tops and for a natural, projecting shape.

A half cup bra cuts lower across the cup than a balcony or full cup — typically sitting at or below the nipple line rather than covering the full breast. The support comes from lifting and presenting the bust from below, and the aesthetic is a visible décolletage with a natural, uncontained upper portion. At D cup and above, half cup bras are a more specific choice than at smaller cup sizes — the cup needs to contain enough breast tissue to provide meaningful support while leaving the upper bust free.

When a half cup works and when it doesn't

Half cup bras work well for women with a firmer, well-supported bust that doesn't require full containment to stay comfortable. They're typically best suited to D–F cup in the more forward-projecting bust shapes — women who wear Freya or Ewa Michalak as their main brand are often the right candidates. At G cup and above in a softer or heavier bust, a half cup may not provide enough containment for all-day comfortable wear.

The main practical use is under low-cut or lace tops where a higher cup line would show. The half cup sits low enough to clear most V-neck and lace necklines while providing support from below. For more neckline clearance, a plunge bra with a deep V centre goes lower in the centre while maintaining cup coverage at the sides. Browse all bra styles for comparison.
