A few small habits keep your D–KK cup swimwear in shape for seasons, not just summers. Here’s how to look after it.
11 habits to make your swimwear last
Rinse immediately after each use
This helps to remove sunscreen, chlorine, salt, sand and body oils as these can affect the longevity of the item.
Brava recommends hand wash only
Using a delicate hand washing liquid like The Dirt Company, this will maintain the fabric integrity and prolong the garment lifespan.
Check the inner labels
Each brand may recommend different ways of washing, please check the inner labels for care instructions, but hand washing is definitely best!
Rotate your swimwear
If possible, rotate your swimwear — gives the fabrics a chance to relax in between wears.
Avoid bleach, fabric softeners or harsh detergents
These can degrade the fabrics faster.
Do not tumble dry
This will cook the fabrics and heat the underwire which can burn through the garment or damage the machine.
Dry flat in the shade
Direct sunlight will fade colour and degrade the fabrics faster.
Do not wring the item
Press gently to remove excess water.
Avoid rough surfaces
Be aware of pool edges, concrete or rough tiles as this can lead to snags and pilling of the item. If possible, use a towel as a barrier.
Apply sunscreen before putting on your swimwear
Sunscreen is a must for the Aussie climate! But sunscreen, tanning oils and cosmetics can degrade swim fabric faster. By applying sunscreen before putting on your swimwear and letting it absorb into the skin will minimise degradation.
Storage
Store flat when dried. Do not leave damp in bags and keep away from heat.
