G Cup Bras: The Complete Guide to Finding Your Perfect Fit

G Cup Bras: The Complete Guide to Finding Your Perfect Fit

G cup bras are far more common than the mainstream lingerie market would have you believe. The problem isn't that G cup is rare — it's that most chain stores stop at DD or E, which makes it feel that way. Once you're shopping with a D+ specialist, the picture changes completely.

At Brava, G cup is one of our core ranges. We stock over 600 G cup styles across bras, swimwear, sports bras, and lingerie from the world's leading full-bust brands. Here's what you need to know.

What is a G cup?

In Australian and UK bra sizing, a G cup describes the difference between your underbust measurement and your full bust measurement. The cup ladder runs: D → DD → E → F → FF → G → GG → H → HH→ J→ JJ→ K. G cup sits in the middle of the specialist range — GG, H, HH, JJ, JJ and K cups are all readily available above it.

The double letters in the UK/AU system (DD, FF, GG) sometimes make the scale feel like you're jumping further than you are. G cup is one cup above FF — not several sizes removed from something normal. Many women who've spent years in an E or F cup are actually G cup and simply haven't had access to accurate fitting.

G cup is also distinct from GG cup: they're adjacent sizes, one cup apart. Brand variation means a G cup in one label can fit similarly to a GG cup in another — which is why getting fitted, rather than going by letters alone, makes a real difference.

G cup size chart

Because cup size is a ratio rather than a fixed measurement, G cup represents different physical volumes across different band sizes. As a rough size reference:

Band size Cup difference (approx) Approx weight per breast
10G ~22cm 500–700g
12G ~22cm 650–850g
14G ~22cm 800–1,050g
16G ~22cm 950–1,200g

Weight varies based on breast density and tissue composition. What the numbers make clear is why adequate support matters at G cup — that's a significant amount of weight for your back and shoulders to manage over a full day without a bra that's actually doing its job.

G cup sister sizing

Sister sizes share the same cup volume but use a different band size. They're useful when  you're trying a new brand for the first time.

Your size Narrower band, same cup volume Wider band, same cup volume
10G 8GG 12FF
12G 10GG 14FF
14G 12GG 16FF
16G 14GG 18FF
18G 16GG 20FF

Most women feel the band difference when wearing a sister size — the cup volume is the same, but the fit sits differently on the body. Treat it as a guide, not an identical replacement.

Getting the fit right

At G cup, most fit problems come from the band being too loose and the cup too small. Years of mainstream fitting that adds inches to the underbust measurement tends to produce this combination.

The signs of a cup that's too small at G cup: breast tissue overflowing the top or sides, the underwire sitting on breast tissue rather than flat against the chest wall, or the centre front gore bowing forward instead of lying flat against the sternum. Any of these means you need more cup volume.

At G cup, breast shape variation starts to have more impact on which styles work. A projected breast shape (breast tissue sitting forward on the chest) needs a deeper cup — Freya, Fantasie or Ewa Michalak styles tend to suit this. A fuller-all-round or wide-root shape does better with Elomi, Panache or Primadonna. Getting this right isn't just about comfort; it's what creates a natural silhouette rather than an odd projected shape under clothing.

Which brands suit G cup

Brand Best for Notes
Freya Projected shapes Good cup depth, slightly narrower underwire. Wide range of everyday and fashion styles at G cup. One of the strongest brands at this size.
Panache Wider breast roots, bottom-full shapes Broader, anatomically curved underwires. Excellent for women whose wires typically dig in at the sides. Very reliable sizing.
Elomi Fuller all-round shapes Wider cups, better for women who find other brands too narrow across the cup. A strong choice for everyday G cup.
Primadonna All-round shapes Solid all-rounder at G cup. Good full-cup and side-support styles.
Sculptresse Fuller, rounder shapes Good value, well-made everyday styles at G cup. The Elegance Spacer T-Shirt Bra is a popular smooth-cup option.

Sizing varies between brands — your G cup in Freya may differ slightly from your G cup in Elomi, particularly with different cup constructions. Our ZoomFit service is free and online, visit a Brava store — or book an in-store fitting at Brava HQ Moorabbin.

Sports bras, swimwear, and strapless at G cup

Sports bras: An encapsulation sports bra holds each breast in its own underwired cup independently; Panache Sport, Freya Active all produce high-impact encapsulation styles in G cup. Try Panache Sports Bra. The Shock Absorber Active D+ compression style comes highly recommended to reduce movement of a G cup bust. See sports bras in G cup.

Swimwear: Fantasie, Freya, Panache, and Elomi all produce G cup swimwear with proper underwired support and cup sizing. Buying bikini separates means pairing the cup-size top you need with whatever bottom size you need — one of the most practical things about shopping at a specialist for swimwear.

Strapless: Yes, strapless bras work at G cup — the band needs to be snug enough to anchor the bra without straps, which means going for a firm fit rather than a comfortable one. The Panache Faith Strapless Bra is our most-recommended strapless at this size. Browse strapless bras.

Maternity and nursing: Hotmilk and Cake Lingerie both produce G cup maternity and nursing styles with proper structure. Breast size often increases significantly beyond G cup during pregnancy — a fitting at around 36 weeks gives you the right size for the right stage.
