A multiway bra has detachable and repositionable straps — the same bra can be worn as a standard underwired bra, strapless, halter, one-shoulder, or racerback, depending on how the straps are configured. For a fuller bust, multiway bras are particularly useful for occasions where you need the support of a well-fitted structured bra but the specific neckline of an outfit rules out conventional strap placement.
What multiway bras can and can't do
A multiway bra in strapless mode is not identical in support to a purpose-built strapless bra. In strapless configuration, all of the support comes from the band alone — no strap contribution. A well-fitted multiway bra in strapless mode is good for occasional strapless use. For extended strapless wear, a purpose-built strapless bra with a firmer band is the better choice. A multiway bra is a good everyday option, but for all-day strapless wear a dedicated strapless bra with a firmer band is the better choice.
In halter and racerback configurations, multiway bras perform well — the strap repositioning provides additional stability and can reduce the tendency for straps to slip off the shoulder that some women experience with standard placement.
