JJ cup is the size where the short list of brands that genuinely engineer for large cups becomes very short indeed. The construction requirements — long rigid wires, tall multi-section cups, firm fabrics that maintain shape under significant load, very wide padded straps — are at the demanding end of what any bra manufacturer attempts. The brands that do it well at JJ cup have usually been designing for this size for decades and have built the grading and pattern-making expertise over time.

Band size matters more at JJ cup than at any smaller cup. As the band increases (12JJ, 14JJ, 16JJ), the cup volume increases correspondingly — a 16JJ is significantly larger in cup volume than a 12JJ, even though the cup letter is the same. This is one reason why fitting guidance from someone who fits JJ cup regularly is valuable — the numerical relationship between band and cup size is not intuitive, and getting it right matters more at this size than at smaller ones.
